Students' Bragging Rights!

I have some more great student pics for today! First we have Nancy, with her ginormas table runner! The pattern for this is actually called Seven Layer Salad Table Runner, and it is from the "Let's Do Lunch" class. It is 66 inches long and takes lots of strips. We had such a good time doing it! Here is Renae and her fantastic first blocks ever in Beginning Quilting. She is so pleased! She is making this for her daugherter, who loves pink and black.

A Few Students, A Few Brags

Happy Friday morning to everyone! I hope everyone is energized by the thought of the weekend coming up quickly. I know I am!
Today we have a few brags for you, which will be followed by a second round tomorrow. So, if you were expecting to see your picture here and it isn't here, check back tomorrow and it will be posted.
Our first picture of the day is Jeannie, one of our Beginning Quilters. Here she is machine quiliting her very first quilt. Way to go, Jeannie!
And here we have another student, Cathy, who agreed to model our brand new Cook's Cover up Apron. This pattern was featured recently on the blog as a new pattern in our shop, so I thought I would whip up an example apron for everyone to see how it looked! That and...I couldn't keep my hands off the pattern....
Thanks, Cathy!

All About Food

Oh, I love our food fabric here at the shop! And it seems that all of you love the fabric as well, it has just been flying off the shelves. Some of you have been using it for clothing or other projects, but I have been using it to make a great fun quilt!

This pattern is from our beloved Terry Atkinson, who always designs great stuff! It is the "All About Me" quilt pattern, and it is a great one. I have dubbed this quilt "All About Food", which is about me, since I love this fabric!

If you are interested in the fabric, come into our shop and get some before it is gone. Otherwise, you can visit our online shop!

Take A Break And Breathe!

The other day I was quilting on the HQ16, our long arm quilting machine, - and I hit a snag. Several snags, in fact. Within 15 minutes my thread had broken, my bobbin ran out, and I had a wrinkle I had to take out. I thought to myself "This is enough to drive me to drink!" and I looked up. And this is what I saw :

There, right outside the shop, was a Korbel Brandy truck. I laughed and laughed, took a picture, and went back to work. The rest of the quilting went like a breeze. I just needed a breather, not liquid refreshement!!!! My friend Kim always says that the best advice she can give a quilter, and I take it to heart, is: "Breathe!!!!!"
It's funny how sometimes we forget!!

A Heartfelt Valentine - Gelasia's Brag

Our brag today comes from another Etsy customer - Gelasia.

She recently sent us this adorable pic of a valentine she made for her mother from a recent purchase from our Etsy store. She had this to say about the construction:

I used red felt to make my mom a valentine. I cut it in a heart shape, and hand sew it very carefully, but my stitches were not that great. I am not a great sewer. I then flipped it inside out and stuffed it, sewing the hole close. Haphazardly I sewed the lace to it, and then by that time it was nearly 7am and almost time for mom to wake up, and valentines day to boot, so I wrote "2 MOM" on it in permenant marker x3.

Great job, Gelasia, I bet your mom loved it!

Check out more of her creations here on her blog, and Gelasia's Etsy shop here.

Have a great Monday, quilters!

Beverly's Brag - Hand Applique

This is Beverly's accomplishment - the finished Little Country Sampler by Lydia Quigley, which was the shop's block of the month from 2006.

This quilt was hanging in a museum as part of a display about antique quilting - all the applique on this quilt was done by Bev's own fair hands!

The fabric is Moda.

Rosie's Garden by Quilting Treasures

As I mentioned in my last post, we just got in a great new line of fabric that I just love. Rosie's Garden by Quilting Treasures is a great retro floral line that works just fabulously with our Ode To The 30's block of the month from Lori Smith.

Aren't these just gorgeous colors? They are so retro and modern and the same time. The best combination!

If you are interested in checking out our new fabric, come into the shop or go to our online store now.

Blast From The Past - UFO

Well, it is Tuesday. Almost halfway through the week. Hold on there, Quilters! You can make it!

Today I have a little unfinished project to show, just because it is so cute. I have a lot of people coming into the shop who give me unfinished projects hoping I will finish them, or projects from a late relative hoping I will know what to do with them. A lot of them get donated to charity, but there are a few that I keep back, hoping to finish some day, just like the original owner hoped!

This is an especially cute piece. Just a little bit of a crazy quilt, but I just love it because of the vintage fabric. So sweet!

So, have a good Tuesday, everyone! And if you have a great unfinished project, vintage or otherwise, feel free to take a pic and email it to us so we can show it on the blog.

Great New Patterns - Available Now!

Good Monday morning to everyone!
I am sure you are all grumbling at me now, but I still think it is a good day.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day, and that you are ticking one more "winter" holiday off your list as we continue the countdown to spring. Will it ever get here?
Today I have some scans of two new patterns we just received here in the shop. Both have a vintage feel to them that I just love! The first is a great new vintage apron pattern, called "Cook's Cover-up". It looks easy and super sweet. I think I will have to get one started right now!
And to embellish it, or your next baby quilt, try one of the sweet baby animal transfers from our second featured item. I love these, especially the litte deer. So precious.
These are available right now in our shop, and very soon in our online store. Come in soon and check them out. Have a great day!

February Block of the Month Class

Well, here is the beginning of month #2 for the Ode to The '30s BOM. The class was so much fun! And to everyone who thought it would be too difficult, it isn't. It is well explained, and not nearly as hard as it looks.
We will be putting the block of the month up on our Etsy shop for purchase. Either by month or all at once. Check back soon for more details!

Ode To The Thirties BOM - January Part I

You know, sometimes I wonder what I am thinking. Sure, in Fall of 2008 it sounded like a great idea to have a 30's block of the month. Better yet, let's make it a fun class so we can all work together and have fun. Oh, and instead of ONE block, let's do FOUR.

Well, here we are folks, as I try to keep up with 2009. Not only my New Year's resolutions, oh no, but an ambitious BOM too!

Ode To The Thirties BOM - January Part II

Here are the third and fourth blocks from the Ode to the '30s quilt. I LOVE the way this is turning out. We have had so many people sign up after seeing the completed blocks.

If you want to join, you had better hurry! Only a few spots are left!

Sweet As Sugar Skirt

This great skirt was sewn by one of our Etsy customers, Kim, who is currently living in Turkey. Kim has a great blog where she talked about being an EcoMom at www.diapertheirfaces.com. I think this turned out pretty darn well for Kim's third sewing project, EVER!

Good job, Kim! Keep up the good work, and keep the pics coming!
